Truth, Racial Healing, & Transformation
Our task was to create a logo for the Black Student Union's BLM march at Dominican University, a graphic that encapsulated the march's purpose. Amidst a period of heartbreak and turmoil, it was crucial to strike a delicate balance between unity and grief as students gathered to speak about their close connection to the cause.
We designed a mark featuring a broken heart, with rearranged pieces spelling out “Say Their Names.” This symbol, while displaying love and solidarity, also conveyed a clear message of a heart weathered by the loss and grief that racism inflicts on our students.
The scars within the heart spelled out the solution: to honor the deaths of BIPOC across the USA and to call out the pervasive racism and police violence against POC, we need to say their names.
